Description
This creamy, rich, and savory cheese dip is the perfect companion for soft, warm pretzels. Made with sharp cheddar and a hint of seasoning, it’s quick to prepare and packed with flavor. Perfect for game days, parties, or just a cozy snack at home!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk (warm)
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese (shredded)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
- Salt (to taste)
- Black pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Prepare the Roux: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for about 1–2 minutes until the mixture is golden and smells nutty.
- Add the Milk: Gradually pour in the warm milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue to cook, whisking, until the mixture thickens, about 3–4 minutes.
- Incorporate the Cheese: Lower the heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, a little at a time, until fully melted and smooth.
- Season the Dip: Add garlic powder, smoked paprika, mustard powder (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine. Taste and adjust the seasonings as needed.
- Serve Warm: Pour the dip into a serving bowl and serve immediately with warm soft pretzels.
Notes
- For extra creaminess, you can add a splash of heavy cream or substitute part of the milk with cream.
- Experiment with different cheeses like Monterey Jack or Gouda for unique flavors.
- To reheat, gently warm the dip over low heat, adding a little milk to maintain a smooth consistency.
