Ingredients

Scale

For the Fish:

  • 1.5 lbs steelhead trout fillet (skin-on or skinless, as preferred)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Garlic Herb Butter:

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray.
  2. Prepare the Trout:
Pat the steelhead trout fillet dry with paper towels. Place it skin-side down (if applicable) on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and black pepper.
  3. Make the Garlic Herb Butter:
In a small bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, dill, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Mix well.
  4. Apply the Butter Mixture:
Using a spoon or brush, evenly spread the garlic herb butter over the trout fillet, ensuring it’s well coated.
  5. Bake the Fish:
Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the trout flakes easily with a fork and is opaque in the center. Cooking time may vary based on the thickness of the fillet.
  6. Serve:
Remove the trout from the oven and let it rest for a minute. Garnish with additional fresh herbs if desired. Serve warm with a side of roasted vegetables, rice, or a fresh salad.

Notes

  • Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently to avoid overcooking.
  • Optional Additions: For a hint of spice, sprinkle red pepper flakes over the fish before baking.
  • Substitutions: Steelhead trout can be replaced with salmon if unavailable.
